The World Series of Poker Announces 2020 Main Event in the US and Worldwide

Are you an experienced poker player who is interested in competing in an international tournament? The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is an annual poker event that has been taking place in Las Vegas since 2004. It comprises several poker tournaments. The Coronavirus pandemic disrupted most of the WSOP 2020s like poker schedules. The World Series of Poker recently announced this year’s main event. Read on to learn more about it.

The WSOP Adapts to Online Poker Events

The World Series of Poker had some experience in hosting online poker series before the Coronavirus outbreak. It has organized several WSOP Circuit events for American poker players in Nevada and New Jersey in the past. The WSOP has been considering online poker as a perfect alternative for live poker series.

Have poker players accepted the WSOP’s live series’ alternative? Many international poker fans get trilled when they compete in live poker series in Las Vegas. Nevertheless, online poker has offered amateurs an opportunity to compete in popular poker tournaments. You don’t have to pay for airfare and accommodation. Besides eliminating extra expenses, online poker has significantly increased the number of players who compete.

The WSOP changed its 101-event live summer schedule to an 85-event WSOP summer schedule. New Jersey and Nevada hosted 31 of these events, and the remaining 54 events for non-American players were held on GGPoker. The “WSOP Main Event” provided many re-entries, a $5k half-price buy-in, and 23 starting flights. The tournaments set a Guinness World Record after having a $27,559,500 prize pool and 5,802 entries.

WSOP 2020 Main Event

The WSOP isn’t contented with its new Guinness record. It announced late last week that it will organize another Main Event that will be referred to as the WSOP 2020 Main Event. It will comprise live and online poker internationally and in the US. The tournament will resemble the annual Las Vegas event. Although the Main Event won’t provide re-entries, it will need a $10k buy-in. Gamers will play in 30-minute levels and get 60K chips.

The WSOP stated that poker players in the US who want to take part in the WSOP 2020 Main Event should either be in New Jersey or Nevada when the tournament will start on WSOP.com. The event will take place from December 13 to December 28. The finalists will play the US final table at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

The WSOP will disqualify anyone who contracts the Coronavirus before the final game. It will award them ninth-place money. Also, all players who live outside Las Vegas and will play at the US final table will get accommodation and complimentary travel.

International poker players will compete on GGPoker, and three starting flights will accommodate huge player fields. The WSOP will announce the starting times later. The international tournament will run from November 29 to December 15, and the King’s Casino in the Czech Republic will host the final table. The finalists can choose to forego travel and accept ninth-place money.

A heads-up match between the winners of the two tournaments will take place on December 30 in Las Vegas. GGPoker and WSOP will contribute $1 million for the winner’s award, and ESPN will air the match. The winner will be named the 2020 WSOP Main Event World Champion and receive a championship bracelet.
