World Poker Tour (WPT) Partners With Partypoker for Montreal’s WPT Online Tournament

It is now official that Montreal’s WPT will go online in January 2021, with up to $2 million in guaranteed winnings. Poker fanatics now have something worth smiling for as the new online tournament replaces the original annual live series held at Playground Poker Club to crown another world champion. It should be noted that Montreal is a leading destination for WPT since 2012, which has seen the crowning of household names in the poker industry. Players that have won previous Montreal WPT include Mike Sexton and Ema Zajmovic.

Playground Poker Club Closed on October 4

Recently, Canada faced an upsurge of COVID-19 infections, turning the pandemic status red. Playground Poker Club is among the many ventures that were either forced to shut down permanently or downscale their operations. Also, Poker players from the USA cannot travel to Montreal, as travel restrictions between the two countries are still active. Nevertheless, players from all over the globe are still invited and encouraged to take their chances with the online awards.

Rewards for the Top Winner at Montreal WPT

Montreal’s event will be marking the seventh WPT champion in the eighth season of partnering with partypoker. Whoever gets to mark the top spot will not only walk away with WPT’s glory as a member of the champion club, but his name will also be engraved on the Mike Sexton cup. Moreover, he/she will also earn a seat in the upcoming WPT Tournaments of Champions that will be hosted by Baccarat Crystal.

If you’re looking forward to participating in the event, qualifiers are already off, going for as little as $.01. However, the organizers are yet to release a complete schedule for how the matches will be played in the coming weeks, before January.

Players Will Have a Similar Experience to That of Previous Online Tournaments

Just like in the previous WPT World Online Championships and WPT online series, Montreal WPT aims at having as many participants as possible regardless of bankroll. Therefore, poker fanatics should expect as many as 45,000 seats in qualifiers, just like previous events. Moreover, players will be forced to use their real names at final tables for the purpose of official records. WPT will be bringing in other affiliate brand sponsors like WPT500 and WPTDeepStacks.

Players in the Canadian region will join the event through partypoker. The organizers are yet to announce other official airing platforms. Again, poker players have something to keep them busy for the rest of the last quarter. The best thing is that WPT has diversified opportunities to qualify, and anyone who is skillful cannot miss a chance.
